Ms. Romi Canetti, Deputy Country Director, IsraAID - October 2018
Amit Weiner worked as the Shelter Program Manager during the time I was working as Deputy Country Director for the IsraAID Dominica mission. IsraAID is a humanitarian non-governmental organization, committed to providing life-saving emergency relief and durable solutions for populations affected by natural disasters, epidemics, and post-conflict situations. IsraAID established operations in the Commonwealth of Dominica in September 2017 after hurricane Maria.
As the Shelter Program Manager, Mr. Weiner established the Shelter Department at our operation in Dominica, with the goal of identifying the most vulnerable families and rebuilding 100 roofs in six communities along the east coast of the island. Mr. Weiner initiated and developed strong relationships with other international NGO’s (IFRC, UNDP, IOM, WFP, and EWB) in order to ensure the mission’s success. Mr. Weiner was in charge of identifying and surveying beneficiary households, laying a scheme plan for each roof and of the recruitment, training, and supervision of skilled labour (10 teams in total). In addition, Mr. Weiner was in charge of the entire logistic procedures, which included procurement, shipment, storage and distribution of construction materials and tools. As the Program Manager of the first Shelter project of IsraAID, Mr. Weiner ensured that the goal of rebuilding 100 roofs was met, while always working effectively and very professionally.
Mr. Weiner was an excellent addition to our operation. His professionalism was shown in his ability to take initiatives, supporting the project from beginning to end, working effectively and always meeting deadlines while being able to anticipate next steps and needs. Mr. Weiner has a desire to learn and the ability to adapt quickly, improvise and overcome challenges while always ensuring success.
Witnessing the level of expertise shown in his role as the Shelter Program Manager at IsraAID Dominica, I believe that Mr. Weiner will be an asset to any organization.
Mr. Peter Court, Project Manager, Digicel Foundation - 28th August 2018
Amit has been working with me for the past 8 months, as part of the IsraAID collaboration with the Digicel Foundation to rebuild the homes of families on the East Coast of Dominica severely damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Maria.
As the new Shelter Program Manager for Israid, Amit faced a difficult baptism into the project with little or no handover from his predecessor and at a time when the project was starting in earnest.
However, Amit rose to the challenges admirably and quickly got to grips with the technical and logistical constraints and hurdles we faced here on a post-Maria Dominica! His technical expertise along with a level-headed and calm nature soon saw the project become a reality.
This alone was no mean feat, dealing with a raft of bureaucracy as well as very limited supplies of material and an even more limited supply of skilled workers.
Add to that, the very poor communications in the area of the project, as well as very basic living conditions, make Amit’s success all the more laudable.
In short, Amit became the mainstay of the project and I would welcome him on any future project and have no hesitation in recommending him for future employment.
